Catfood and flies / bees outside. How not to attract.

I have a couple strays that I feed outside and have not been able to catch. They wait for
me to feed them but will just let me get so close. I tryed live traps but the neighbors
cats always get in them. Anyway that is not what I am asking about.

The thing is that during this hot weather the canned food attracts flies and bees like
crazy. I have tryed putting mothballs around and hanging like pest repellant strips in
the shrubs where I put their food but it does no good. The bees are so bad that at times
the cats can not eat and the flies like to lay eggs or whatever in the food which is not
good for the cats either.

I started putting their canned food out in the evening towards dusk and the bees do not
seem to be out that much but the flies still are. I have put some jars with like bacon
grease in and holes punched in the lids so flies get in and caught in the STINKY grease
and have caught GOBS of flies but there still are tons more around !!

Any reasonable suggestions as to how to not attract the flies and bees or to get rid of
them ?? I do keep dry food out for them and the bugs do not seem to bother that but I
like to give them canned daily for the ones that do not want the dry.

One other thing - I do not live where I feed the strays so I make a trip there daily to
leave food for them and if they are not there when I am at times I leave the food for them
under some shrubs and bushes and that is when the bugs take over. If the cats are there
waiting for me they eat it then before the flies and bees take it over.

TIA

Bee/yellowjacket/wasp trap = Mountain Dew (regular) made nice and soapy with
liquid dish soap, a bowl or container of some sort.

They'll be attracted to the sugar, the soap makes sure they slide in and get
overcome by the low surface tension so they drown. You might not be able to
get them all, but can keep the number down.

Flies = get one of those fly traps that is a plastic bag with some "stuff"
in it. The "stuff" is an extract that smells like rotting flesh, the flies
get trapped in the bag. Just throw away when full. (Home Depot has these)
It makes a HUGE difference in the number of flies hanging around any given
area.

Or try a four sided (two sides, back and top) screen box so flies/bugs have
to fly in sideways to get the food. The cats will figure it out, bugs are
dumber and less of them will.

Fly strips are good too.
Apart from that you can only go early morning, late night.
Are they really bees, not wasps?

canned food attracts flies and bees
If they're actually yellow jackets instead of bees, you might try to find the
nest and hit the entrance with a little "Enforcer Wasp/Yellow jacket Killer".

The little suckers tend to burrow nests into my lawn - multiply-stinging whoever
is foolish enough to mow the lawn without checking first. Geeze, I wonder who
could be that dumb? -) Payback time consists of golf ball-sized clump of
Enforcer's foam at the entrance. 30 minutes later it's all over.

You can find the nest by sitting on the ground for awhile, watching them come
and go...then repeatedly relocating in the direction most seem tb coming from
until you find the source.
